A bingo is a Scrabble play that uses all seven tiles from your rack in one turn. In addition to the word's tile value, a bingo earns a 50-point bonus — making it the most impactful single play in the game. Tournament players routinely score 400–500 points per game largely because they find multiple bingos per game. Casual players who learn to spot bingos can jump from 200-point games to 350-point games almost immediately.

The key to finding bingos is not memorizing every valid 7-letter word (there are over 30,000) — it is recognizing bingo-friendly rack stems: 6-letter combinations that, combined with almost any common board letter, form valid 7-letter words. The most famous stem is SATINE (S, A, T, I, N, E): add a B to get BANITES, add a D to get DETAINS, add an R to get RETAINS, and so on across most of the alphabet.

The point values listed below are base tile values only — the sum of each letter before any board multipliers. Every bingo automatically adds 50 points on top of these values. A bingo played on a triple-word score earns the tile value × 3, then + 50. When you see scores like 86 or 91 points in a single turn, a bingo on a premium square is almost always the explanation.

How to Study Bingo Stems

Start with the SATINE stem — it is the most productive 6-letter combination in competitive Scrabble. Carry SATINE in your rack mentally and ask "what letter does this board give me?" for each turn. Keeping two S tiles is usually worth more than using both S tiles in a shorter word. Keeping AEINR after a play means your next draw has a high chance of completing a bingo stem. Trading tiles (exchanging 1–7 tiles for new ones, but losing your turn) is worth considering if your rack is unplayable or bingo-hostile.
